The Department of Mathematics at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics Education at the Assistant Professor level that will begin August 2008. Doctorate must be conferred by the starting date. Applicants must demonstrate the potential to develop a strong research program as well as a strong commitment to teaching. Screening will begin November 16, 2007 and continue until the position is filled.

Qualifications sought are as follows:

Doctorate should be in mathematics education; candidates must possess a strong background in both mathematics and mathematics education. K-12 teaching experience is desirable. We seek faculty whose research and service interests will have an impact on reforming mathematics education and who are interested in a position that values both teaching and research.

Candidates must be willing and able to work collaboratively with other faculty, and the Idaho Council of Teachers of Mathematics to make a strong commitment towards supporting individual teachers, schools, and districts in their efforts to improve K-12 mathematics education. Teaching duties include mathematics methods and content courses for pre-service secondary teachers, content courses for pre-service elementary teachers, graduate courses supporting a masterâ™s degree for teachers of mathematics, and possibly other mathematics courses. The department offers bachelor's degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics-Secondary Education, as well as M.S. degrees in Mathematics Education and Mathematics.
