Ethel Beech (1900-03)

Ethel Beech appeared at the Savoy from November 1900 to July 1901 as chorister in Patience, and a chorus member and dancer
in The Emerald Isle before assuming the principal soubrette roles from Hilda
Jacobsen with the touring DOyly Carte Repertoire Company C in July. Her
roles on tour included Edith in The Pirates of Penzance, Angela in Patience,
Iolanthe in Iolanthe, Melissa in Princess Ida, Pitti-Sing in The Mikado,
Phoebe in The Yeomen of the Guard, Tessa in The Gondoliers, and
Hearts Desire in The Rose of Persia. She left the DOyly
Carte organization in March 1903.
Miss Beech was married to Cecil Curtis,
a bass chorister and small part player with the Company at the Savoy during the Second
(1908-09) London Repertory Season.
