THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Arthur Boielle (1898-1903) Arthur Boielle was a member of the D'Oyly Carte chorus with Carte's touring "D" Company in 1898 and 1899. He joined the Savoy chorus in 1899, remaining through The Emerald Isle, April-November 1901. He is reported to have taken a role in the curtain-raiser The Willow Pattern in 1901-02 when it played with Iolanthe. It's unclear whether he was in the chorus for Merrie England in 1902-03, but Boielle created the part of Sir James Jellicoe in A Princess of Kensington when it premiered at the Savoy on January 22, 1903. He remained in the part throughout its run and may have taken it on tour. |
