THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANYDaisy Gilpin (1897-98, 1908-09) Daisy Gilpin made her London Stage debut as Jenny Wren in a London Juvenile Opera Company production of a one-act entertainment Cock Robin & Jenny Wren (Royalty and Vaudeville Theatres, 1891-92). She was also a Nurse in Old King Cole, another one-act piece on the same bill. She later appeared in London in the musical fantasies In Town (Prince of Wales's and Gaiety, 1892-93) and All Abroad (Criterion, 1895), and in three matinee performances of Trial by Jury (Gaiety, June 1896; Lyceum, December 1896; and Drury Lane, March 1898). Miss Gilpin was in the D'Oyly Carte chorus at the Savoy for the revived production of The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein (December 1897-March 1898) and the original production of The Beauty Stone (May-July 1898). After a lengthy absence she returned to the D'Oyly Carte and the Savoy chorus for the tail-end of the Second London Repertory Season, serving from November 1908 to March 1909. |
