Travel Grants

We pleased to acknowledge NSF support to a liited number of travel grants for BEST 2016 participants. The deadline for a travel grant application is May 30. Applicants will be informed of travel grant decisions soon after. There are three travel grant categories. Eligibility and the application process is described below. Travel grant funds are disbursed on a reimbursement basis.

STUDENT Travel Grants
To be considered for a Travel Award, the student should:

  1. 1. Have an accepted abstract to present at the BEST 2016 symposium, and send:
  2. 2. A statement requesting a travel award and explaining the interest in attending BEST 2016,
  3. 3. A one page CV that includes contact information, expected date of the award of a degree, the institution awarding the degree, the advisor name, and other relevant information including recent publications, and
  4. 4. A brief recommendation from the advisor.

In addition to BEST NSF travel grants, student presenters are also eligible for travel grants of up to $ 150 from the AAAS-Pacific Division. More information about these travel grants can be found at this link.


POST-DOC Travel Grants
Eligibility:
To be considered for a Travel Award, the post-doc should:

  1. 1. Have an accepted abstract for the BEST 2016 symposium, and send:
  2. 2. A statement requesting a travel award and explaining the interest in participating in BEST 2016,
  3. 3. A one page CV that includes contact information, the hosting institution, the post-doc mentor’s name, and other relevant information including recent publications. In addition he/she may provide a URL to a web page that expands on the information in the submitted vita

Untenured, tenure track faculty Travel Grants
Eligibility:
To be considered for a Travel Award, the faculty member should:
  1. 1. Have an accepted abstract for the BEST 2016 symposium, and send:
  2. 2. A statement requesting a travel award and explaining the interest in participating in BEST 2016,
  3. 3. A one page CV that includes contact information, and other relevant information including recent publications. In addition he/she may provide a URL to a web page that expands on the information in the submitted vita

Applications should be sent via email to best@diamond.boisestate.edu. Preference will be given to students, postdocs or tenure track faculty who do not have access to funds to support conference travel, are members of underrepresented groups, and in the case of a student applicant, on the strength of the advisor's recommendation.
